Tune Hotel Westminster
Hotel, London
Coming over from Malaysia courtesy
of Tony Fernandes (who also runs the
low-cost airline Air Asia and is the team principal of the Caterham
F1 team) this is the first TUNE hotel in
the UK and sets the brand standard
for the European roll out.
The conversion of the original 1960's
office building, including the 6th floor
extension, was a challenge structurally,
spatially and environmentally.
However, together with a strong
design team, a robust, quality project
was delivered within tight time and
budget constraints.
To be rated as a BREEAM "very good"
building the hotel boasts solar water
panels on the roof, thermally
upgraded external building fabric,
heat recovery air handling units and
low energy use lighting on motion
detectors. Together the existing CO2
usage has been reduced by over 12%
with a further 11% reduction in CO2
from the renewable energy sources;
the project provides a sustainable
solution on a value for money
basis.
- The extended 6th floor's chromatic glass cladding matches the existing marble. A Portland stone parapet provides
proportion. CGI of reception area with Corian desk. Stylish compact contemporary bedrooms.
